Meet the founders

Since 2015 we’ve been on a mission to bring an authentic taste of Mexico and Central America to the UK. We started pressing tortillas by hand for our taco truck ‘the little taquero’ on a manual tortilladora.

Our taco truck was slinging tacos into the mouths of the hungry South West for over three years using fresh hand-made tortillas. Unwilling to compromise on the quality of our fresh tortillas but struggling to meet demand, we invested in a tortilla machine – made in Mexico.

The Masa Tortilla story

HECHO EN MEXICO

In 2018, ‘Maria’, our tortilla machine Hecho en Mexico (Made in Mexico), arrived. With her help we began supplying tortillas not just for our own tacos, but for restaurants, street food traders, shops, delis, and home cooks across the UK.

By 2024, demand had outgrown Maria’s capacity. To keep up, we imported a bigger machine – ‘Estaban’ – also Hecho en Mexico. Estaban tripled our production and allowed us to get even more fresh tortillas into the hands of people who love them.

Our aim has always been simple: to bring more people closer to the flavours and culture of Mexico and Central America. One bite of our tortillas – with their rich corn aroma and flavour – and you’re transported straight to the heart of this amazing food culture.

In Mexico, every town has a tortilleria, and it’s completely normal to have fresh tortillas delivered to your doorstep, just like the milkman used to here. That’s exactly the experience we wanted to replicate. For the first time in the UK, you can now subscribe to have fresh tortillas delivered through your letterbox – straight from our tortilleria to your table.

And because tacos are nothing without a little heat, we’ve also started creating a couple of our own hot sauces – bold, fiery flavours designed to complement our tortillas and bring even more of that authentic Mexican experience home.
