PERSPECTIVE

Why we love Round Hill Roastery

Round Hill represent the best of what local craft can be: small team, big passion, and a commitment to doing things the right way. Their work proves that “local” doesn’t have to mean small-minded — it can mean locally roasted, globally connected.

They’re proof that modern British coffee has a voice all its own — and that voice happens to come from Somerset.

And the coffee is bloody good.

Meet the founders

Roundhill’s philosophy is simple: good coffee, done properly.

They pay fairly, roast carefully, and celebrate the people behind every bean. Their sourcing focuses on seasonal harvests, minimal intervention, and flavour that sings of place.

In a world of overcomplicated coffee, Roundhill keep it refreshingly grounded — approachable yet precise, playful yet purposeful.

The Round Hill Roastery story

Founded in 2012 by caffeine dreamers in the Somerset hills, Round Hill Coffee have become one of the UK’s most respected independent roasters. From their base in Midsomer Norton, they source world-class coffees through direct relationships with producers who share their obsession with quality, sustainability, and innovation.

Every roast is small-batch and intentional — guided by a belief that great coffee should be transparent, traceable, and truly delicious. Over the years, they’ve built long-term partnerships with farms like La Claudina in Colombia and Nembain Burundi, working closely to help growers experiment, evolve, and thrive.

How we curate our independent makers
At The Local, every maker we feature has been handpicked — not just for what they make, but how they make it. From the first sketch of a label to the last pour of a bottle, we look for craft, care, and a sense of place that’s unmistakably local. Our curation process champions independent creators who share our principles of quality, sustainability, and community — so when you buy from The Local, you know it’s the real deal.
