About Spill Tea

Spill Tea is on a mission to make your daily cuppa genuinely great — full-flavoured, ethically sourced, and made with complete transparency. These teabags use high-quality, loose-leaf grade tea sourced directly from smallholder farmers in Rwanda, who are paid significantly above the Fairtrade minimum price to ensure a better income and more resilient communities.

The result? A bold, bright, naturally rich tea with real depth — no dusty filler, no blandness, no compromises. Each bag brews a clean, balanced cup that’s perfect for your morning routine or an afternoon reset. Strong enough for milk, smooth enough to drink black.

Thoughtfully produced, beautifully boxed, and crafted by industry experts Lou & Sofia (formerly teapigs), this is the everyday tea upgrade you didn’t know you needed — ethical, delicious, and refreshingly honest.

Made in Norfolk, England

Norfolk has long been a place where makers quietly perfect their craft. From the windswept coastline and fertile farmland to the historic streets of Norwich, the county is home to a thriving community of independent producers creating everything from artisan food and drink to homewares and natural wellbeing products.

Its landscape shapes what is made here. Rich agricultural land, traditional orchards, family farms and coastal influences provide exceptional ingredients, while generations of craftsmanship continue to inspire modern businesses built on quality rather than scale.

At The Local, we celebrate the brands that represent the very best of Norfolk—businesses with authentic stories, remarkable products and a genuine connection to the place they call home.

"For you, a better cuppa. For the farmer, a better price."

Meet the people behind Spill Tea

Lou co-founded teapigs in 2006 and Sofia joined just after. They worked together to grow it into a much-loved brand.

Lou was a tea buyer and taster for Tetley before that so between them, they’ve worked in tea longer than they like to remember.

They've made an everyday tea that tastes like good tea should taste; fuller, bolder, brighter. The kind of tea you'll want to drink everyday. And it pays farmers more.

They're starting small, but big things start that way.

We hope you love it as much as we do.

The craft of Tea

Tea is one of Britain’s daily rituals, yet few of us know where it comes from or the people who dedicate their lives to producing it.

At The Local, we champion independent makers who believe tea should be better—for flavour, for craftsmanship and for the growers behind every harvest. From carefully sourced loose-leaf blends to beautifully made everyday brews, every product is chosen for quality, integrity and story.

Explore exceptional British tea brands, discover the places that inspire them and enjoy a slower, more thoughtful way to brew.

Signature product

Spill Tea – Everyday Tea Bags

Spill Tea’s flagship Everyday Tea is blended using fairly sourced leaves from smallholder farms in Rwanda, creating a rich, balanced brew with complete transparency. Farmers are paid significantly above the Fairtrade minimum, ensuring better livelihoods alongside exceptional tea.

Bold enough for milk, smooth enough to drink black, it’s an everyday tea with real depth and character. Crafted by industry experts Lou & Sofia (formerly teapigs), it’s ethical, delicious and refreshingly honest.

VALUES & SUSTAINABILITY

Spill Tea exists to challenge the way tea has traditionally been bought and sold. By sourcing directly from growers and paying significantly more than conventional commodity prices, the team is working to create a fairer and more transparent tea industry.

Rather than relying solely on certifications, Spill believes lasting change comes through long-term relationships with the people who grow their tea. Every decision—from sourcing and blending to packaging and communication—is guided by a commitment to honesty, better quality and ensuring more value stays with the farming communities at the very beginning of the supply chain.

THE LOCAL EDITORIAL

Why we love Spill Tea

We love Spill Tea because it’s proof that good taste can do good things.

Because everyday should taste exceptional—and do better by the people who grow it. Spill is local founders with global standards: pay farmers more, show your working, and make a cuppa that’s anything but ordinary. It’s a modern British staple with integrity, led by two makers who helped shape the UK’s specialty tea scene.

Also fun fact from Tommy; the perfect tea brew time is the time is takes to play Beastie Boys: Sabotage. Stirred not squeezed.
