The story
The first vines came in 2007
Nestled in the Stroud Valley of the Cotswolds, Woodchester Valley began as a small family passion and has grown into one of England’s most respected boutique wineries.
Established by the Shiner family, the estate’s first vines were planted in 2007, with a clear vision: to craft premium English wines that express the character of their limestone-rich soils and cool, rural microclimate.
Today, the vineyards cover 58 acres across three distinct sites, and every stage — from grape to glass — happens on the estate. The result is a true expression of the Cotswolds: elegant, balanced, and rooted in place.
The people
Fiona Shiner’s belief in the hillside
Fiona is too humble to admit that it took a lot of guts and determination to plant vines in the Cotswolds in the early 2000s. Almost all England’s vineyards were (and still are) concentrated in the southeast of the country and there was very little support available locally. Her belief that the location, aspect and soil were right for vinegrowing has literally borne fruit and now she is producing over 100,000 bottles of still and sparkling wine a year!

Woodchester Valley believes exceptional wine begins with healthy vineyards. Through careful stewardship of the land, thoughtful vineyard management and a long-term commitment to quality, every decision is made with both the environment and future vintages in mind.
Working with the natural rhythm of the seasons allows the vineyard to produce wines that express both place and year with honesty, balance and remarkable freshness.

Woodchester’s English sparkling wine has become our go-to gift for milestone celebrations, from birthdays to friends welcoming a new baby. Tommy has visited the estate twice: the appeal is in both the wine and the place behind it.
